Handheld and portable devices for the operator in the field — sunlight-readable, NVG-compatible, and hardened for dismounted use.
PANASONIC
10.1″ fully rugged Windows tablet with modular expansion, hot-swap batteries and a quick-release SSD option. The reference tactical tablet across European defense procurement.
GETAC
11.6″ fully rugged Windows tablet with sunlight-readable and NVG-compatible display options. Common in air, ground and dismounted roles where a larger screen is needed.
PANASONIC
12″ fully rugged detachable 2-in-1 with dual hot-swap batteries. Used where the same device has to work as a dismounted tablet and as a keyboard machine for reporting — and where an existing Toughbook 31/33 accessory and dock estate is already in service.
Fully rugged laptops and workstations for vehicle-mounted command, forward operating base HQs and static C4ISR roles. Full keyboard, expansion ports and vehicle-dock ecosystems.
PANASONIC
Fully rugged modular laptop — user-swappable batteries and expansion bays, quick-release SSD, TAA-compliant configurations. The reference specification across European defense contracts.
GETAC
Fully rugged laptop positioned directly against the Toughbook 40, with a strong European defense footprint and MIL-STD-461F option. The alternative where a second-source or Getac-standardised fleet is required.
GETAC
Fully rugged mobile workstation with discrete GPU — the choice for geospatial, ISR image processing and any C4ISR workload that needs desktop-class compute in the field.

Dismounted operations, command vehicles and armoured platforms, forward operating bases and field HQ tents, naval bridge and CIC roles, and air-mobile / vehicle-mount installations where the device is bolted to a shock-isolated cradle. Each environment applies its own combination of vibration, temperature and interference — and the same device is often expected to move between them.
C4ISR and battle-management workflows (SitaWare, ATAK, MilGate and similar), route planning and terrain analysis, targeting support and fire-mission workflows, secure communications and encrypted data handling, and vehicle-integrated command with CAN bus, J1939 or MIL-STD-1553 interfaces where required.
Vibration and shock from tracked and wheeled vehicles, temperature extremes from Arctic winters to desert summers, water and salt spray in naval and amphibious roles, electromagnetic interference from vehicle radios and radar, and the accumulated wear of a device that is expected to remain in service across a 5–7 year procurement cycle rather than a consumer 2–3 year refresh.
A device failure in the field is not a productivity issue — it is a mission and safety issue. Procurement decisions here are made against operational requirements documents, not price comparisons, and the standards regime exists precisely because 'seems durable' is not a specification when a crew's situational awareness depends on the box working.
Not a marketing claim: the specific test methods (drop, shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, altitude, salt fog, sand and dust) with documented test reports. Defense procurement will ask for the full report, not the summary bullet.
Required for use around vehicle radios, radar and other emitters — and for vehicle-integrated installations. Certified variants of the Toughbook 40, Toughbook G2 and Getac B360 exist and are what appears on European defense contracts.
US federal procurement requires TAA compliance; European defense procurement equally requires country-of-origin declarations. Verify the specific SKU is TAA-compliant / built in an approved country — the base model may be, and the specific configuration may not be.
The minimum secure-computing floor for defense-grade Windows deployments. Standard on Toughbook 40, Toughbook G2, Getac B360 and Getac X600 configurations — worth verifying on any pre-owned or older stock.
Required for any classified handling role — the storage is removed and secured separately from the chassis. Toughbook 40, Toughbook G2 and Getac F110 / B360 all offer quick-release SSD variants; ask for the specific SKU.
Displays for tactical use need 1000+ nits for daylight and a dimming profile that goes low enough for NVG (night vision goggle) use without spilling light. This is a specific display option, not a firmware toggle on a standard panel.
Command-vehicle installations need a shock-isolated dock with an integrated port replicator (Ethernet, serial, GPIO, J1939/CAN). Verify Havis, Gamber-Johnson or manufacturer-original docks are available for the target vehicle platform.
Consumer hardware refreshes every 12–18 months and disappears from the channel. Defense-grade Toughbook and Getac SKUs typically offer 5–7 year availability with documented lifecycle dates. Confirm the EOL / EOS dates against the operational deployment horizon before signing.
MIL-STD-810H
The reference environmental test standard covering drop, shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, altitude, salt fog, sand and dust. Defense procurement asks for the full test report against specified methods, not a summary claim. Verify the specific test methods and profiles actually run on the SKU being quoted.
MIL-STD-461F / MIL-STD-461G
The US military standard for emissions and susceptibility — required for any device sharing a platform with radios, radar or countermeasures. Certified variants of the Toughbook 40, Toughbook G2 and Getac B360 exist and appear on European defense procurement contracts; verify the specific configuration is the certified variant.
TAA / COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
Trade Agreements Act compliance is required for US federal procurement; European defense procurement requires equivalent country-of-origin declarations. Verify the specific SKU (not just the model family) is compliant with the target procurement regime.
TPM 2.0, SECURE BOOT, REMOVABLE SSD
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are the modern floor for Windows-based defense deployments; removable/quick-release SSD is required for classified handling. All three should appear as line items on the delivered configuration, not assumed defaults.
3-year on new laptops and tablets, 2-year on new scanners and handheld computers, 12-month on certified pre-owned. Extended options on request.
